TRAINING DRILLS

To become a top player like Drogba, Lampard or John Terry takes years of practice. However all players started out learning their skills with some coaching when they were kids, be it from mom or dad or at their local soccer club.

The following section of the website is therefore aimed both at kids who want to improve their soccer skills, and moms and dads who want to be able to set up basic coaching drills to enable young players to improve their skills, such as passing, first touch and dribbling. Simple exercises that can be easily replicated in a local park or sports club.

Initially we would like to present a selection of drills taken from the players in the Chelsea Academy so you can view the video of each drill and a description of how to reproduce it yourself!

This is just the start though, something to wet the appetite, keep checking back as we add new skills and new drills to the site, to help make kids much better players and parents much better coaches!

SPRINT

Starting at Gate A, the player sprints as quickly as possible at Gate B – a total distance of 40 meters.

Each pass is only successful if it is made and received within the circle. Players cannot hit the same re-bound board twice in succession and must have hit all four boards at least once during the test.

After 9 passes the player must dribble the ball through Gate B and stop in possession of the ball Note: 1 extra ball is available if a players first ball misses any of the rebound boards. Only two balls are available in this test. If the second ball misses a board the test is failed.

TIMED PASS

Description:
Starting at Gate A, the player passes the ball against each rebound board in turn and receives it back (i.e. wall pass)

If a player misses the target he can retrieve the spare ball from the start while the clock continues. The player can resume the test at the board they missed.

The test is completed when all four passes have been made and the player dribbles through Gate B, stopping in possession of the ball within the 1 metre zone.

NB: Only two balls are available in this test.
